Senior Citizens of Marion County, Inc., has been nominated for a state award. The county was one of the first in Kansas to establish a countywide organization for seniors. It began with a Ford Foundation grant, with Professor Esther Twente of the University of Kansas in charge.
Callie Peterson of rural Marion is opening a new beauty shop at 416 E. Main, Marion. Naming her business Signature Salons, she offers complete hair services, acrylic nails, manicures, pedicures, and tanning.
Leadership Marion County Class of 2000 visited Topeka April 13. Class members are Marty Fredrickson, Donna Bernhardt, and Jeff Cady, Marion; Troy Wedel, Cari Garbo, and Tammy Nickel, Hillsboro; Thomas Alstrom, Peabody; and Laura Legg, Tampa.
St. Luke Hospital and St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary will award two $500 medical scholarships this year. Recipients are Eliza Bennett and Jane King, R.N., both of Marion.
Rocky Hett of Marion spent two weeks during March on a hunting trip to Namibia, Africa. He was accompanied by two hunting buddies, Rufus Harris of Hollywood, Calif., and Auddie Anderson of Townsend, Mont.
