Balloons at Marion City Library and wide smiles on the faces of city officials told the story May 3. The city has qualified for more than $600,000 through the Transportation Enhancement Program of the Kansas Department of Transportation. Funds will be used to restore the exterior of the former Santa Fe Depot and convert the interior into a city library.

Marion High School students Matt Schuyler and Mark Hanson are state champions in forensics. Schuler and Hanson placed first in state events in improvised duet acting. They are the first forensics champions in the history of Marion High School. Other students participating in the events were Ive Eddy, Jenny Lundgren, Jennifer Noriega, Marie Konarik, Meredith Moore, Shawna Hett, Tisha Warner, Tyrell Becker, James Meier, and Kyle Ramsey.

The Kansas Walleye Association held its first tournament of the season May 7 at Marion Reservoir.

Estimates have been sought for improvements to the track at Marion Stadium. Figures received so far indicate the project will exceed $100,000.
