Braxton Skiles won first place in Class 3A triple jump during the state track meet in Wichita. His distance of 44 feet 10.75 inches also set a school record.

Hal Jackson of the lake, who has sung with the Gaithers at Opry Land, came to the Marion Senior Center May 17 for Senior Center Day and entertained with songs while accompanying himself on the guitar.

Well-known and highly regarded vocational agriculture teacher Earl Wineinger, 62, died May 30, following an extended illness.

Joey Smallwood of Marion is one of 12 students nationwide to receive a top scholarship from the Orphan Foundation of America. Smallwood is a Marion High School graduate now studying musical theater at Millikin University, Decatur, Ill.

The family of the late Jerry Hett on Monday formally presented a set of playground equipment to the City of Marion. It includes a slide, climbing wall, tower, sheltered table, and swings.

Recognized for maintaining 4.0 grade point averages at Marion Middle School are Caitlin O’Dell, Tyler Stubenhofer, Nikki Moody, Rebecca Savage, Amy Tajchman, and Emma Parli.
