From anvil shoots to rock music, this past weekend had to be the noisiest Chingawassa Days ever. The most important part of the weekend, however, was the quiet weather. A heavy thunderstorm rolled through the area Thursday. Lightning even damaged a tree in Central Park. However, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were dry with only occasional clouds.

David Branson of Marion has been appointed the assistant state commissioner for the Cal Ripken Jr. division of Babe Ruth baseball.

Bearly Makin’ It, an antique store in downtown Marion, became a virtual magnet for Grammy-award-winning musicians during Chingawassa Days. “They were just down-home, nice people,” said Marion Ogden, co-owner.

Accompanied by area law enforcement officers on Thursday, Marion Police Sgt. Garry Klose carried the Kansas Special Olympics torch through Marion. More than 1,400 athletes competed Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.

Harry Bennett, rural Marion, has filed for the Kansas House of Representatives, 70th District, which includes Marion County. He filed by petition on the Democratic ticket.
