Illegal dumping of asphalt shingles, metal objects, painted wood and potted plants recently was found at the tree dumpsite during an inspection by Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The city has been given 30-day’s notice to prepare a plan to oversee the dump.

The home of Merle and Emma Douglas, 429 N. Roosevelt, Marion, is chosen as the “outstanding” Christmas lighting display for the week.

Steven Waner, a senior at Marion High School and Andrea Stahlecker, a senior at Centre, were among 200 high school seniors competing at the Wichita State University’s Distinguished Scholarship Invitational.

Eight small aircraft arrived Saturday at the Vernon Vogel farm northeast of Marion Reservoir for the annual Christmas party of the Flying Farmers. Vogel is president of the Kansas chapter of Flying Farmers.

A 1992 Ford handicapped-accessible van, owned by Perry Steiner, was taken sometime early Dec. 4 from in front of the Steiner residence. It was recovered later Tuesday on a country road south of the Marion County Lake.

Three weddings reported in this issue were those of Jill and Matthew McGrath of Manhattan, Tami Newkirk and Charles Harbin of Tunisia, and Janet Oborny and Thomas Harrington of Norfolk, Neb.
