Marion City Library reached its $152,000 goal April 17 to provide matching funds for the renovation of the depot into a library. A donation from the Aid Society of Lutherans totaling $2,200 was the contribution that put the library over the top.

Piano students of Lenore Mitchell provided the program for the April 16 meeting of Athena Study Club. The recital was performed by Scott, Ryan, and Keith Jones, Louis Holt, Hank, Lucy, and Caroline Collett, Emily and Allison Meador, Monica Spachek, and Colleen Tajchman.

Kansas Insurance Commissioner and gubernational candidate Kathleen Sebelius spoke Saturday at a district convention in Marion of the Kansas Federation of Democratic Women’s Clubs.

Former Marion High School football coach LeRoy Dreier, 64, died April 7 at his residence in Newton.

Members of a pinochle club, formed several years ago as part of the PRIDE program, met April 14 for the annual Card Bash, conclusion of this year’s competition. Present were Marge and Mick Summervill, Vivian and Harold Conyers, Rose and Greg Davidson, Judy and Jim Christensen, Betty and Harvey Sanders, Norma and Jerry Kline, Don and Vicki Kraus, Doris Bowyer, Frances Kreutziger, Evelyn Mott, Norma Woerz, Jackie Hett, Gerri Williams, J.B. Miesse, and Earl Winter.
