Marion County residents were treated to a good taste of winter Friday night and Saturday. The six to nine inches of snow brought cancellations, postponements, and changes of plans for many.

Charles and Virginia Heerey of Marion will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner in Wichita. The Heereys were married Dec. 26, 1953, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Marion.

An eye-catching, cut metal sign has been installed at the intersection of K-15 and 330th Street to draw attention to the town of Tampa, four miles east. The metalwork was done at Donahue Corporation shops at Durham.

W.H. “Bill” Holdeman will be guest of honor at an 80th birthday open house Dec. 27 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Holdeman was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Rich Hill, Mo.

Sixth graders Louis Holt and Jaclyn DeForest are pictured showing their certificates after taking the top two places at the Marion Elementary Geography Bee. DeForest took first place with Holt following in second.

Marion City Library has received an Award of Excellence from the Associated General Contractors of Kansas for the renovation of the 1912 Santa Fe Depot.
