Marion City Commission accepted a bid Monday from Hays Fire Equipment for a new 2006 pumper truck and equipment for a total of $167,380.

Marion native and former Marion County resident Randy Just has accepted the position of public works director for the city of El Dorado. He is a graduate of Marion High School.

Joseph and Robin Arocha announce the birth of their daughter, Madison Ann, on August 5 at Newton Medical Center.

Seven new teachers will be educating Marion youths this year. They are Jennifer Owen, business and computer; Sarah Waddell, language arts; Shaun Craft, physical education, assistant high school football coach and head baseball coach; Kimberley Harden, fourth grade; Autumn Priddy, fifth and sixth grade social studies, assistant MMS basketball coach; Bethany Carlson and Kathy Schmidt, special education.

An old railroad tanker was installed Tuesday in a pit at Centre High School. It will provide an underground water source in case of fire. A newly drilled nearby well will provide the water.
