Marion County Commission and residents heard a presentation Monday from developers looking for a location to build a $300 million resort and casino. Registered county voters will decide in a mail-in election if a casino can be located in the county.

The FCCLA chapter of Marion High School will be trick or treating Oct. 31 for canned goods to be donated to the local food bank. Pictured showing identifying t-shirts to be worn that night are officers Kalaya Jackson, Kimber Hardey, Jessica Bernhardt, and Valeree Hett.

Church youth groups from Marion and Hillsboro took part Oct. 5-9 in a mission trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to aid hurricane victims. Those going from Marion were Jessica Bernhardt, Kevin Billbe, Jessica Carlson, Adrienne Chamberland, and Rose Taylor.

Gavin Moore, senior at Marion High School, is the Marion County Record’s Athlete of the Week. Moore was the top MHS boys’ team finisher at the cross-country regionals Thursday with a 3.1-mile time of 17:59.

Boyce Baumgardner, formerly of Marion, has accepted the position of Assistant Vice President for Academic Initiatives at Emporia State University. For the past seven years, Baumgardner has been executive director for University Advancement at ESU.
