Thirteen candidates have filed for the four seats on the newly formed Marion City Council. Candidates who have filed are Erik Billings, Stacey Collett, Jim Crofoot, Jim Davis, Roger Hannaford III, Max Hayen, Bill Holdeman, Melvin Honeyfield, Gerald Kline, Darvin Markley, Earl Mueller, Roger Schwab, and Gene Winkler.

Alvin and Bernadeen Winter of Marion recently sold Marion Marble and Granite Works to Chris Meierhoff. They are pictured watching Meierhoff and employee Jarvis Whiteman as they work on a monument.

Marion resident Pat Chamberland, a registered nurse at Wesley Medical Center, has volunteered to serve two weeks in the Dominican Republic on a surgical team from Wesley as a part of Medical Ministry International.

Seniors Ashley Billbe and Russell Ploutz have been named Marion High School students of the month.

A feature article in this issue tell how a historic barn on the Hett farm south of Aulne has been converted into a comfortable home for John Hett.

Top spellers from each grade in Marion Elementary School participated Jan. 18 in a spelling bee. Sixth grade student Lexi Kruse was the school champion and fourth-grader Katey Ehrlich took second. Both will compete Feb. 9 in the county bee.
