After more than 40 years as Marion County Lake superintendent, Dale Snelling is retiring. He will retire on or before May 1.

The first accident on the new roundabout at US-77/50 at Florence occurred at 2:40 p.m. Jan. 2, when a semi tractor failed to slow down and the driver over-corrected which resulted in the semi he was driving to overturn. There were no injuries, but more than $1,000 in damages to the vehicle and state traffic signs.

Jim Christensen, 66, Marion is retiring from Straub International after 11 years as its appliance sales manager. He was involved in the farm implement and appliance business for 30 years and was sole owner of Lynn’s Farm Equipment from 1982 to 1955, when he solid to Straub’s.

Tara Abbott recently accepted a promotion to accounting manager with Cessna Finance Corporation. Abbott is a 1990 graduate of Marion High School and the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Caleb Abbott of Marion.

A picture shows Marion Mayor Martin Tice, working along with other volunteers, who were clearing debris from the former railroad right-of-way west of Walnut Street. They made short work of the overgrown area, planned to become a hiking and biking trail from the library on Third Street to the dike west of town.
