Two Marion County servicemen were wounded in action in Iraq this past week. Specialist Simon Makovec of Marion and Specialist Peter Richert of Hillsboro were among those wounded by shrapnel following an attack by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) near Baghdad. Makovec was treated for minor shrapnel wounds in his legs. Richert lost a leg as a result of the attack and is hospitalized.

Rural Marion resident Greg Bowers recently returned from a week in West Africa. The bank vice president spent a week in Cotonou, Benin, West Africa, with Gideon International on a mission trip to distribute Bibles.

There have been five permits for new homes issued since the beginning of the year. Two new homes will be constructed at Denver and Freeborn and a manufactured home will be placed at 1018 Denver.
