The City of Marion was notified that it has been chosen to receive a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant. The grant funds, with a loan of $644,480 from Kansas Department of Transportation, will be used to make much-needed improvements to Eisenhower Drive and North Cedar Street, two streets that connect to K-256.

Grand Funk Railroad, the top-selling American rock group of the 1970s will be the featured act at the 17th annual Chingawassa Days festival at Marion.

Members of Marion Cub Scouts competed Sunday in the annual Pinewood Derby. William Holt placed first in the competition, followed by Zach Fruechting, second, and Seth Snelling, third. Fruechting’s car also was named “best of show.”

Deer Trail Implement has joined Conrady Western and Pankratz Implement to form a new company named PrairieLand Partners. PrairieLand Partners will have John Deere dealerships in eight locations: McPherson, Marion, Emporia, Hutchinson, Anthony, Winfield, west Wichita, and east Wichita.

Queen of Courts homecoming candidates are Charlie Holub, Calvin Jeffrey, Hank Collett, Kristin Waner, Kalaya Jackson, and Austin Percell. The king and queen will be announced Friday between games against Halstead.
