The Chingawassa Days committee recently announced the addition of Diamond W Wranglers (formerly Prairie Rose Wranglers), a popular country group, to headline Friday night, June 6, at Central Park, Marion.

Seniors Calvin Jeffrey and Austin Percell were named Marion High School 2008 Queen of Courts king and queen Friday. Little helpers were Preston Schneider and Evan Heidebrecht. Other candidates included Kayla Jackson, Hank Collett, Charlie Holub, and Kristin Waner.

Gerald Wiens of Marion will present a photo program at the annual meeting of Marion County Conservation District Feb. 23 at the Parkview M.B. Church activity center in Hillsboro. Photos will range from scenic to wild flowers, and from wild animals to weather highlights.

The Tailgrass Prairie National Preserve at Strong City has been selected as one of the eight wonders of Kansas. Selected from among 24 finalists, the winners were announced Jan. 29 by Governor Kathleen Sebelius.

With Valentine’s Day Thursday, local flower shops were busy. PLANTations owner Tamara Christiansen is pictured was she sorts through a new arrival of flowers. Carol Robertson, an employee of Aunt Bee’s, helps Chase Becker choose gifts for his mother and teacher with help from his dad, Lee Becker.
