The poles are up and the slides are set. By the end of the week, the new playground equipment at Central Park, Marion, should be ready for use. Collin Williams, Preston Schneider, and Tyler Makovec are pictured on the front page as they try out the new slides.

Tampa State Bank issues an invitation in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their Marion Branch Office. There will be an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 11 that will feature “free hot dogs and all the fixin’s”!

Marion Performing Arts Group will present its second annual variety night Saturday at Marion City Auditorium. Two short plays will be presented along with other musical and comedy acts. Actors include Rose Davidson, Pam Varenhorst, Jami Williams, and Doug Marler.

Volunteers are needed Saturday to help with the sixth annual Marion Reservoir Cleanup Day. Dress appropriately. Gloves, trash bags, and refreshments will be provided.

Organizers of Chingawassa Days have declared 2008 “The Year of Gene,” in honor of Gene Winkler, who retired from the committee following the 2007 festival. Winkler served on the committee for 10 years, including terms as chairman and co-chairman.
