The weather was nearly perfect and the shoppers enthusiastic as thousands of people descended on Marion’s Central Park Saturday for the annual Art in the Park & Craft Show.

The 1986 Marion High School graduate, Tonya (Johnson) Hodson, with three teammates, recently won the coveted first place trophy at the 37th annual National Stearman Fly-in at Galesburg, Illinois, The foursome was the four-ship formation champion by making various maneuvers in unison while in flight.

“Marion Reservoir: 40 Years of Fun, is the theme Saturday of the 97th annual Old Settlers’ Day parade.

MHS seniors Elliot Hett and Camille Christensen were named fall homecoming king and queen Friday before Marion’s victory against Nickerson.

Harry Bennett of Marion is one of 10 Kansans who have been selected to take part in May in an exchange program with 10 delegates from Japan. Bennett will represent the Kansas Organic Producers Association and the Kansas Rural center. 10 Kansans and 10 Japanese will join in late spring for reciprocal fact-finding visits between the two countries.

The second annual Marion County Lake chili cook-off will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 4, near the Marion County Lake hall. People will purchase kits to sample the chili and vote for their favorites.
