First-time deer hunter Ryan Jones, 18, of Marion hit pay dirt Dec. 2, when he shot two deer at a time. The deer were standing next to each other when the shot went through one and into another.
An article in this issue covers an incident reported in the Marion County Record’s first issue of the new year in 1969 — 50 years ago. It is about an event that longtime residents will never forget. Headlines read “$200,000 Fire Struck Marion.”
The cold winter night recorded a low of minus 14 degrees and 20 to 25 mph north-northwest winds. It was the night the building housing Duckwall’s Store and Case and Son Insurance burned to the ground.
Members of the Alumni Radio Players, Marion High School alumni, will perform three one-act plays Saturday night in the Performing Arts Center. Members of the ensemble are TC Edwards, Brett Billings, Riley Ross, Emily Svoboda, Isaac Guetersloh, Cassy Legg, Luke Bowers, and Lucy Collett. All are college students home for the Christmas break.
