The 2010 winter homecoming candidates at Centre High School are Carlye Simons, Samantha Seifert, Shelby Deines, Quentin Wacker, Trevor Troutt, and Jacob Jennings. A king and queen will be crowned Friday at halftime of the boys’ basketball game against White City.

Matthew Christensen of Marion won the Tiger Cub division in Cub Scout Pack 102’s Pinewood Derby for 2009 and saw some design aspects that he plans to incorporate into his car for the 2010 derby. He is pictured working on his entry for this year’s derby.

Kansas Cross-Country and Track and Field Coaches Association named Grant Thierolf as 2009 3A coach of the year Jan. 9 at the 2010 KCCTFCA Track and Field Clinic luncheon in Junction City.

Thierolf commended the work of his coaches — Deanna Thierolf, Rex Wilson, Dick Schwartz, Charlotte Waner, Ann Leppke, Jerry Smith, and Bill Hudson — for their assistance during the 2009 season.
