Parishioners of Good News Christian Fellowship endured a cold night Dec. 22 to present a live nativity at the Marion church. Participants were Kenneth Newell, Val Newton, Peter Walker, Rebekah Walker, Bob Vance, Jennifer Stegman, Ruthie Walker, Naomi Walker, Madison Dicks, and Aubrey Hardyway.

Beginning Saturday, motorists can expect to receive traffic tickets if they text and drive in Kansas.

Lyman Adams of Hillsboro is celebrating 25 years at Cooperative Grain and Supply. He came to the job at CG&S from Great Bend on Jan. 1, 1986. During his tenure, the co-op has added elevators in Canton and Canada and has acquired two convenience stores — Ampride in Hillsboro and Marion.

Gretchen Unruh is pictured as she puts a decorative layer of whipped cream on a pie at Gretchen’s Taste of Heaven in Marion. The bakery and restaurant is being forced out of its current location, but Unruh plans to reopen in a bigger location.

An article by staff writer Rowena Plett tells that Alex Stuchlik of rural Lost Springs has been playing polka music on the accordion for almost 65 years. The self-taught musician formed the popular Alex Stuchlik Polka Band with members of his immediate family 25 years ago. The band has performed in almost every community in Marion County and in many towns and cities across the state.

Eleven-year-old Garrett Alleven of rural Marion will represent the multi-state Missouri Valley Conference at the Midwestern All-Star Swim Meet in Lawrence Jan. 15 and 16. Garrett began swimming competitively about three years ago on the summer team in Marion.
