Maynard Knepp will share stories of life on the farm through the eyes of his cat, Slickfester Dude, and others at the next Learning in Retirement session at the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center, Tabor College Campus, Hillsboro. Knepp and his wife Carol Duerksen of Goessel are established writers and speakers in the area.

Conner Thierolf is this week’s Marion High School athlete of the week. Placing in three events Friday at Marion Relays, he was first in the javelin, second in the discus, and third in the shot put.

After spending two years as a full-time police officer in Peabody and part-time stints in Sedgwick County and Marion, Brad Cady has joined the Marion Police Department.

Marion High School senior Ariel Depler will fly to Washington, D.C. April 26 to attend the Council for Exceptional Children award ceremony. Depler is one of three academic winners of the “Yes I Care” award and will receive national recognition for her academic achievements.

Barbara Anderson of Burns, who teaches at Flint Hills Primary School in Cassoday, is nearing retirement and has established a new business, “Rural Excursions.” She has purchased a dozen kayaks and, in addition to kayak trips, she plans to offer several other outdoor adventure activities.

Marion High School foreign exchange students, Luis Estaban of Spain, Webber Tang of Taiwan, and Vu Nguyen of Vietnam, in an article by staff writer Ben Kleine, tell of the experiences they have had overcoming language and cultural barriers while attending school this year.
