Staff writer Jennifer Stultz tells how chickens are the centerpiece of Duane Unruh’s rural Peabody sideline business.

Currently a junior at K-State majoring in entrepreneurship, he sells pasture fresh eggs and homegrown broilers for human consumption, and chicken liver brownies for pet treats.

“Right now the dog treats are just a sideline business,” he said.” “But they help me turn a profit with the rest of my poultry products.”

Senior Taylor Harms and Junior Isaac Baldwin have been chosen by the faculty of Marion High School as students of the month of November.

Longtime former Peabody publisher William V. “Bill’’ Krause died Dec. 6 in Peabody. Funeral services were held Saturday at Peabody United Methodist Church with interment in the Chester, Nebraska, cemetery.

Tampa’s big event this week was the tour of homes and community Christmas party on Dec. 4. Many out-of-towners, as well as local people attended the homes tour with 105 tickets sold.

Marion Elementary student Devin Hamm correctly spelled “mantle” Friday to win the local National Geographic Bee competition.

Second place finisher was Jarred Rahe. Payton Harms placed third.

Other students who competed were Hap Waddell, Corbin Wheeler, Hunter Helmer, Tori Shults, Skylar Creed, Tristian Armstrong, Austin Neufeld, Luke Dawson, and Christian Becker.
