Marion County Commission took a break from its regular business meeting Tuesday to tour the construction site of the new county jail. The facility is expected to be completed in mid-June.

St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary president Elora Robinson and St. Luke Auxiliary Foundation president Judy Reno are pictured presenting St. Luke Hospital CEO Jeremy Armstrong with a check for $39,000. The donation completes the Auxiliary’s commitment of $125,000 pledged to the hospital for remodeling.

Two students are chosen each month by Marion High School faculty and staff for overall citizenship and classroom performance. January students of the month are senior Justin Rahe and junior Elizabeth Goentzel.

Strassburg Baptist Church is sponsoring a benefit meal for Troy and Eileen Schmidt’s daughter, Ruby, who has had two surgeries to fix a heart condition. The pulled pork meal will be March 5 at Marion City Building with all proceeds going to the Schmidts.

Winter homecoming royalty will be crowned Friday at Centre High School between the varsity girls and boys games against Goessel. Queen candidates are Brianna Alvarez, Kinsley Shoup, and Danielle Spohn. King candidates are Kordell Harding, Max Kemble, and Shane Methvin.

Current overcast skies and north winds are conducive to Bald Eagles hovering over the Marion Lake dam most afternoons and diving down to capture fish. Torey Hett, office administrative clerk for the Army Corps of Engineers, says their office recently counted 62 Bald Eagles during an official census for the state.
