American Legion Riders are pictured as they ride their cycles to the Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post where the Legion and VFW recognized eight veterans who have returned home after tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Honored were Air Force Master Sgt. James Schlehuber, Air Force Tech. Sgts. Shad and Tracy Winter, Marine Spc. Tyler Mermis, and Army Spc. Josh Fruechting. Specialists Gerald Helm and Branson Shipman were recognized but did not attend the ceremony.
St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary Shoppe in Marion is restricting drop-off times for donations to just Fridays and Saturdays when they are present in the wake of a recent theft of items from the loading dock behind the shop.
Sue Gutsch has been named outstanding employee of the quarter for St. Luke Hospital & Living Center. She previously worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years, Marion Manor for 7 years, and has worked at St. Luke in home care and living center for nearly 25 years.
Winners in the Marion Cub Scout annual pinewood derby in the Cub division were Matthew Christensen, first; Campbell Winter, second; and Johnny Ziemmermann, third. Winners in the Tigers division were Chance Shults, first; Matthew Basore, second; and Caden Wilham, third. Devin Soyez won best design with his army truck design and Campbell Winter won unique design with his Hershey bar design.
Marion High School wrestlers earned tickets to state Saturday in the regional tournament at Eureka. It is the second highest total of state participants in school history. Qualifiers include Colten Johnson, Beretta Janzen, Brody Carroll, Eric Regnier, Kyle Palic, and Evan Slater.
