Years of lobbying and planning and months of construction are about to come to fruition. A new roundabout at US-56/77/K-150 is scheduled to open by Christmas Day.
Rex Wilson, Cathy Henderson, and strangers passing by helped salvage 511 pounds of bread destined for Marion’s food bank after it spilled from Wilson’s pickup as he drove up a ramp to I-135 in Wichita.
Nearly 50 families will receive boxes containing hundreds of dollars’ worth of free food, and 30 of them also will receive gift boxes as part of a giveaway at Marion Community Christmas.
Vocal soloists Sue Clough, Connie Fisher, and Madonna Schafers performed while Keith Allison and Shirley Bowers played piano at Marion Senior Center’s first Christmas talent show. Clough, Norma Klein. Joan Meyer, and Pam Varenhorst read Christmas selections.
Nearly 300 county residents gathered to protest conditions of the county’s rain-soaked roads, which received up to two inches of rain last week. Interim road and bridge superintendent Jesse Hamm said the county was using small gravel except when roads were losing their base. “It doesn’t happen as soon as people would like,” Hamm said, “but we’re trying.”
