Elizabeth Meyer realized a dream four years in the making Friday, emerging from a group of 17 candidates to be elected state FFA president at the group’s annual convention in Manhattan.

Four times in the past week, railroad crossing arms on W. Main St. in Marion have malfunctioned, with arms down and lights flashing but no train approaching.

The city and Kansas Department of Transportation have been trying to get Union Pacific to make necessary repairs to the rough crossing for months.

Chingawassa Days attendees were treated to a tie-dye fashion show Saturday that included not only humans but also their canine companions, including Tank, a 3½-year-old English Mastiff service dog for Marion resident Nanette Lowry.

Students of the month at Marion High School are seniors Alli Boyd and Katie Nordquist and juniors Jarrett Johnson and Joshua Knolla.

More than 60 former Marion and Hillsboro High School football players have been practicing for up to three months for a chance to do something most believed they would never do again — play in a full-contact game June 17 against a former rival.

Walkers on the annual pilgrimage to honor Father Emil Kapaun took the final steps of their 60-mile journey Sunday before entering St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church at Pilsen. A fourth day was added to the walk this year to facilitate more discussions about Kapaun, who is on the path to canonization.
