Roger D. Nash, vice president of operations for Greeley Gas Co., appeared before the Marion City Commission during the regular meeting Monday afternoon. He spoke in opposition to the city’s proposal to take over natural gas distribution and not renewing the franchise of Greeley.

Marion firefighters battled a blaze Monday noon that totally destroyed the Glenn Eickleberry residence located about eight miles southwest of Marion. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Members of the Marion High School class of 1939 met for lunch Thursday at the Stone City Café to plan for their 60th anniversary reunion on Old Settlers’ Day. Those attending were Henry and Helen Murray, Newton; Walt and Dorothy Weber, Hillsboro; Butch Seifert, Russell; Paul and Peggy Thies Eberhard, Salina; Gailen and Jeanne White, Manhattan; Annie Jean and Lawrence Winkley, Ruth Jo and Ira Penner, Ruth Goentzel, and Janet and Harold Keazer, Marion.

Laura Baldwin and Beth Watson have organized a program to encourage use of bicycle safety helmets. Marion Police Department will issue coupons for treats when they “catch” children wearing helmets properly and operating their bicycles safely.
