Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the legendary rock and country band that has recorded more than 20 albums, will perform June 4 in Marion as part of Chingawassa Days. Money raised from the benefit concert will help fund a new X-ray lab and equipment at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.
The long anticipated proposal by the City of Marion to sell bonds to finance a local electric generating plant has been shot down in flames by a telephone call from Western Resources. Kansas Power and Light (which is a division of WR) will require that Marion “buy out” the remaining five years of a franchise contract with KPL if the city plans to proceed.
Five generations were present March 4 at the Garrison home in Emporia when Margaret Wolf celebrated her 90th birthday. The group included Margaret’s daughter Sarabel Garrison, granddaughter Jan Traylor, great-granddaughter Francie Reed, and great-great-grandson Owen Reed.
Jorge Flores Garcia, senior foreign exchange student from Spain, has been selected as Marion High School student of the month. While in the United States, Jorge is staying with Marion resident, Kym Smith.
