Three teachers with decades of experience to Marion Unified School District have announced their retirement. Board of education members accepted resignations of physical education teacher Marion Ogden, MHS math teacher Rex Wilson, and middle school and high school business and English teacher Helen Reznicek.

A $35,000 Heritage Trust Fund grant from the Kansas State Historical Society and $7,000 from the Florence Historical Society provided funds for renovations, which now are nearly complete at the Harvey House at Florence.

Dr. Jessica Lauren, Marion veterinarian, who owns and operates Animal Health Center of Marion County, will be the featured speaker Sunday at Centre High School commencement exercises.

Members of Prairie People tourism committee stopped at the former depot Thursday to see the renovations that have taken place.

Mattie Christiansen and Kathy Vantuyl have been selected to receive St. Luke Auxiliary scholarship awards in the amount of $500 each. Mattie is pursuing a nursing degree at Emporia State University and Kathy is seeking a career as a nurse practitioner at K-State.

Betty Grimwood, well-known and highly regarded Burns leader, died May 5 at her home following several months’ illness.
