A story on page one of this issue informs readers of a change in ownership of Hoch Publishing Co., Inc., parent corporation of your Marion County Record. Nadine Hoch has announced the sale of Hoch Publishing Co., Inc., to Bill and Joan Meyer of Marion and Eric Meyer of Champaign, Ill.

The American Legion, during its national convention, passed a resolution asking for Americans to ring church bells at 9:04 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 2. The event will be in recognition of the precise moment when World War II ended in 1945.

The Horner Hotel is featured on Florence Labor Day buttons this year. The hotel, soon to be demolished because of its dilapidated condition, was built in 1887 by A.F. Horner of Topeka.

Several Marion High School graduates continue the school’s connection with the Emporia State University football team. Bill Griffith, Chuck Maggard, and Dusty Delaney will play for the Hornets this fall.

Dr. Bradley Tice, a native of Marion and graduate of Marion High School, has been named director of the new Drake University/American Drug Stores Community Care Laboratory. The laboratory will open this fall at Des Moines, Iowa. Tice, the son of Martin and Margaret Tice of Marion, received his doctorate in pharmacy at the University of Kansas in 1995.
