Following a one-hour executive session Monday, Marion City Commission re-purchased the former Santa Fe Depot on South Third Street. L.G. Eddy, owner of the building, which his son Martin Eddy had previously purchased from the city, agreed to sell the depot to the city for a price of $15,000. Eddy also agreed to donate $2,000 to the city “save the depot” fund.

Marion Chamber of Commerce will host its 20th annual Art in the Park and Craft Show on Saturday in Central Park

Gov. Bill Graves notified City of Florence officials in an Aug. 28 letter that the city would receive $72,000 through an urgent need, community development block grant to help fund removal of the former Horner Hotel on Main Street.

The Last Member Club of the Marion High School class of 1927 met Sept. 12 at Stone City Café. Of the remaining nine members, six were present for this gathering. They were Esther McGhay, Edna Macklain, Winifred Conyers, Kathryn Mohn, and Paul Brooker.

Marion Middle School eighth graders received approval Monday from the Marion Unified School District to attend one out of state trip annually. Current eighth graders are raising money for a trip to St. Louis or Chicago, whichever offers the best ticket price, teachers said
