Old Settlers’ Day activities will be held this weekend as friends gather in Marion from around the nation. Theme for the 87th annual festival in “Marion’s Characters of the Past.”
Hordes of people swarmed into Marion Saturday to attend the 20th annual Art in the Park. According to chairman Judy Christensen, between 25,000 and 30,000 people visited the event.
Margaret Wolf of Marion will serve as grand marshal for this year’s Old Settlers’ Day parade. Wolf, who turns 90 in March, has never missed an Old Settlers’ Day. Her baby book shows her mother took her to her first Old Settlers’ Day back in 1912.
Marion Police Chief Don Keazer resigned Thursday following an administrative hearing with the Marion City Commission. Keazer has been on the force for about 15 years and chief for 12.
Tom and Laurie Koslowsky on Monday announced the sale of Marion True Value Hardware to Brad and Anita Seacat of Salina.
Undaunted by the closing of Tiemeier’s Store at Lincolnville, Octoberfest organizers are moving ahead to continue the tradition of their fall festival. A full schedule of events is planned for the 12th annual event to be held Oct. 3.
Marion High School homecoming king and queen candidates are Carrie Darrow, Scot Hannaford, Bailey Skiles, Adam Thomas, Jenny Christiansen, and David Darrow. Homecoming events take place Friday.
