Marion City Commission held a longer-than-usual meeting Monday, devoting it to long range planning and the hiring of a new police chief. The position was offered to a retiring Kansas Highway Patrol trooper, David Mayfield of Yates Center.
Kansas Attorney General Carla Stovall will give the keynote address at the annual Marion County Women’s Workshop to be held Nov. 14 in Marion.
All births announced in this issue were those of boys. They are as follows: Michael Noah, son of Mike and Tierney Fredrickson, Marion, born Oct. 19; Joel Richard, son of Jeff and Tammy Jirak, Marion, Oct. 20; Cole Daniel, son of Brent and Briana Methvin, Lincolnville, Oct. 21; and Braden Scott, son of Cerece and Scott Lawson, Burlington, Oct. 23.
The MHS faculty has selected Marion High School junior James Meier as student of the month. He is the son of Lloyd and Linda Meier of Hillsboro.
A public auction scheduled for the weekend of Nov. 6-7 has been set to sell the historic 110-year-old Tiemeier store at Lincolnville.
The Hilltop Manor retirement complex has announced winners at the annual bazaar. Shirley Bowers won the “garden patch” quilt. There were 422 tickets sold. The two popcorn cakes were won by Louise Smith and Shirley Carlson.
