City of Marion officials continue to gather information on a utility commission to be operated jointly by the cities of Marion and Hillsboro. The matter was discussed Monday at the regular weekly meeting.

Attendance was down for the annual Marion Chamber of Commerce-sponsored farm/ranch appreciation steak feed Nov. 24. There were some serious conflicts this year.

A new eye-catching engraved limestone monument now greets Remington Road travelers as they approach Pilsen from the south. It sits on ground owned by Paul and Margaret Vinduska. Their family underwrote the cost of making the sign, which pays homage to the late Father Emil Kapaun, native of Pilsen. Two Pilsen landmarks engraved on the stone are St. John Nepomucene Church and the old Vinduska blacksmith shop.

The Burns community hosted KU students from seven countries over the Thanksgiving holiday. The students were from India, China, Peru, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, and two from Thailand.

Marion High School volleyball players Sara Cleeton and Carrie Darrow have been named first team all-Cottonwood Valley volleyball players.

A former Marion County resident holds one of the most important behind-the-scenes jobs in the state. Duane Goossen, formerly of Goessel, is Director of the Budget Division for Kansas. Gov. Bill Graves appointed him to the position in May.
