The budget for Marion County may increase four mills, less than the projected seven mills, county commissioners said Friday. One mill of the increase reflects payments to county emergency medical service volunteers. Three mills would fund a new line item for road maintenance by a private company.
Rain pelted Marion the afternoon of Aug. 5. Rain and pleasant temperatures (76 degrees) have kept fields and gardens green much longer than usual. Farmers appreciate the moisture, especially when they hear reports of drought-like conditions in Texas and Oklahoma
Marion County Commissioners held a teleconference during their regular meeting Monday with an attorney representing a number of landowners in Marion County. The landowners are fighting efforts to railbank the former Central Kansas Railway line between Marion and McPherson. Commissioners took no action on the matter after the call.
A team from Peabody won the A Division title this past weekend at the Marion County Softball League tournament. The Coach Lite team won six games and lost one in the tournament to take first place. Hett’s from Marion won the B Division.
