The Marion boys took their annual contest with the Peabody team last Friday by the big score of 52-7. A special train on the Santa Fe took 215 enthusiastic rooters to see the game, and quite a number of autos went over. The crowd, with the band in the lead, marched up the main street and out to the grounds in a body.

The pupils of the 7th grade with Miss McLeland as chaperone had a Halloween party last Friday evening in the domestic science rooms. The rooms were decorated in true Halloween style, and the games were appropriate to the occasion. Miss Sheets and Miss Perkins, who are the other teachers doing departmental work, were guests of the class. Refreshments were served.

Vounty commissioners levied this year a tax of 0.05 of a mill for county road purposes, as provided for by the law. This will raise this year $2,022.67, which added by the auto tax will give $4,713.42 to be spent on the county roads. The commissioners laid out about 280 miles as county roads. There will be available nearly $16 for maintaining each mile — grading and dragging — which ought to keep them in good shape. Of course, none of this includes the township road money that will be raised this year. Townships throughout the county this year raised $33,519.71.
