New “white way” poles were put in place a few days ago, and the “juice” turned on. They certainly look fine. There are four poles with five globes each on the bridge, and one three-globe pole at the corner east of the bridge.

Probably no larger crowd ever gathered at Highland Cemetery than what gathered there on Decoration Day this year. The weather was favorable, and the flowers were most abundant this year.

Arthur Capper, Republican candidate for governor; W.Y. Morgan and J.F. Brewer, candidates for lieutenant governor; three candidates for Congress; and others will be present June 8 at a Republican meeting at the courthouse. Music will be by the Marion band.

Mrs. A.E. Case is enjoying a visit from an uncle, Mahlon B. Holcombe of Elma, Washington. Mr. Holcomb went to Washington about 25 years ago. He is an old soldier with an interesting war record. He was on duty at Fort Monroe when Jefferson Davis was brought there as a prisoner and was one of those guarding Davis.

As per advisement in the county paper, bids to build nine county bridges in Marion County were received by the county clerk. This is the biggest bridge letting for some time.
