The Old Santa Fe Trail picture men were here yesterday and took moving pictures of Main St. Cars were lined up on the south side of the street, and the pictures were taken from a moving auto.
This was the first picture of this kind taken after leaving Kansas City — Marion being the only town having a level, paved street suitable for taking that sort of picture.
It will take about six months to complete this Old Trail picture project. The first set of pictures cover the route from Kansas City to Laguna, and these will then be shown to raise money for completing the work as well as for advertising purposes.
Work on Denver St. paving began on Tuesday. Three blocks of it — from the old Hannaford corner east to Dr. C.C. Jones’ place.
Much of the corn around here is in tassel.
If you want to see a place that is a model for neatness, go out and see Henry Schubert’s place at the east edge of town.
He has his own irrigating plant, raises berries and all that sort of thing, and sells eggs, butter, and milk — and keeps the buildings painted and the weeds cut and everything spic and span.
We have a notion that there is a bigger reward for that sort of thing than putting in time on the street corner arguing politics.
Sunday was the hottest day yet this season, the thermometer reaching 101.
