The Taliaferro and Walker Brothers store — a new men’s furnishings store — is taking on a mighty nifty appearance. By the way, that first name is pronounced “Tolliver.”

The following sign appeared in a local meat market window the other day: “We sell bologna. Better keep your dog tied up.”

The Chautauqua Boosters are swinging around the circle today, spreading through the county the glad talk about the big Chautauqua that will begin here Aug. 5.

A new time lock for the vault in the county treasurer’s office was put in place this week. The old one had been in use many years. As it did not work perfectly, the Yale Company refused to guarantee it.

C.W. Thompson expects to leave today or tomorrow for New York to buy goods for the Grand. He makes one or two trips to New York every year. He finds the New York market the most satisfactory of any of those he visits.

Acting upon a petition of property owners, city commissioners Tuesday evening ordered the paving of Santa Fe St. from the Elgin Hotel west to the Rock Island railway. The pavement probably will be of brick, we are told. There is still more paving in prospect.
