MORE

December 19, 1884

Old Santa Claus’ residence at the Methodist Church will be big enough for all your presents, so bring ‘em along.

All parties holding tickets for the Gun at Lockwood & Siebert’s will present them at once, as drawing will take place the night before Christmas.

Peter Funk has closed his mill for repairs and will expend several thousand dollars upon new machinery for it, including the modern rollers.

John Perry’s team went home, last Wednesday, in a great hurry and without a driver, but fortunately without much injury to wagon of horses.

Mr. A.E. Case has made his sidewalk connection between his hotel property and the new crossing near the bridge. It is hoped that the walk will soon be continuous on that side of the street, as it seems it never will on the opposite side.

We are glad to announce that Mr. Town, the New York mason whose presence here we have heretofore mentioned, has purchased Mr. Hammill’s interest in the “Marion Marble and Stone Works,” and he and Mr. Jex will make that business boom. A stronger mechanical firm would be hard to find.

The Shakespearian club will meet tomorrow (Saturday) night, as usual, at the residence of Prof. Donaldson. This is a literary organization we have not heretofore referred to, we believe. It was recently organized from members of the school. Mr. Donaldson thinks that an evening, once a week, spent with the great bard of Avon and other authors cannot fail to have an elevating and refining influence upon his pupils, and he is right. A taste for reading must be cultivated, and any one not accustomed to frequent communion with books will be surprised how rapidly the habit will grown when cultivated. Books that once seemed dull and uninteresting will sparkle with new life, and the longing for mental food will become, as it should, equal to the desire for physical sustenance.

If you are not able to buy a fur robe of any kind at a cost of from $10 to $25, so the next best thing and buy one of those buffalo foot muffs for $1.50 at Davis’ harness shop.
