Mr. A.W. Brewerton, owner of the Marion telephone system came in from Kansas City Monday and informed us that he had about completed arrangements with the Bell telephone company to supplant our present system with theirs. New phones will be put in, longer poles put up, new wires stretched, and the whole system supplanted entirely with the Bell works.

Herington has three cases of small pox.

Mr. S.D. Pierce and family, of Grant Township, left early this week for Oregon. Mr. Pierce will introduce the Chable sad iron into that state and we wish we had ears of all its people long enough to say to them that the iron is a good thing and Mr. Pierce, a mighty fine man.

The members of the Musical Institute, which has been in session in this city for two weeks under the able tutorage of Prof. L. Laverty of Kansas City, will give a grand musical entertainment in the Opera House next Monday evening. The beautiful five-scene cantata, “Jephthah and His Daughter” will be presented, in costume, and will undoubtedly be the finest entertainment of the kind ever given in Marion.

Dr. Hannaford has resigned as Health Officer and Dr. C.S. Loose, of Peabody, has been appointed to the position.
