Marion had quite a picnic, after all, on the Fourth. Town pride prevents us dignifying it by the title of celebration. It was an impromptu affair, but passed off very pleasantly. The city was gay with flags. The band enlivened the day with delightful music. President H.A. Billings called the assemblage together. The crowd was small, but good-natured and seemed to enjoy the shade and social pleasures of the day very much. While there was no systematic, organized display of fireworks in the evening, the pyrotechnicals by private parties were quite elaborate, and was witnessed by more people, we think, than witnessed the exercises of the day.

On account of poor health, I will sell my farm, 4 miles south of Marion, the county seat, on the Cottonwood river, frame house just finished, of 6 rooms and cellar. Well by door, stone barn, frame hen house, 2 hog and cattle corrals of 2 acres, nearly completed, with good stone fence, with sheds and a spring of never-failing water in them. Apple, cherry and crab-apple trees just coming to bearing, tame grapes, black berries, gooseberries and strawberries, 70 acres bottom land under cultivation, 10 acres timber, good part black walnut, the rest fenced off to pasture.
