Miss Anna Bown, one of our primary teachers, recently received a call to fill a vacancy in the city schools of South Charleston, Ohio, her former home, and where she successfully taught for a number of years before coming to Kansas. We are glad to know that she declined to accept the offer, in view of the fact that she was in the midst of the year’s work here.

The following was recently sent to one of our primary teachers by one of her friends in the east. It contains not only a sentiment, but a truth that very few appreciate. “Lift your hat reverently when you pass the teacher of the primary school. She is the great angel of the republic. She takes the bantling fresh from the home nest full of pouts and passion—an ungovernable little wretch whose own mother honestly admits that she sends him to school to get rid of him. The lady who knows her business takes a whole carload of these little anarchists, one of whom single handed and alone is more than a match for his parents, and at once puts them in the way of being useful and upright citizens. At what expense of toil and patience and soul weariness. Lift your hat to her”. So I say, and all the people should say, amen.

Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Richardson, of Gale township, recently hosted a celebration of their china wedding anniversary and their fine large farm house was thronged with friends who enjoyed themselves till a late hour.
