Mr. Fred Lewis would like to be Sheriff of Marion County and frankly admits the honorable and laudable ambition in today’s Record. He is an old soldier and an old citizen and yet by no means an old man. He is in the prime of vigorous manhood, and with his experience in subordinate positions is well equipped with experience in the particular and peculiar duties of the office.

Sheldon of the El Dorado Times is hereby as heretofore invited to come up to the hub of creation and take a steamboat ride on the placid classic Luta. The steamboat is here, and no foolin’.

The proposition of Mr. J.M. Wishart of Abilene to remove his foundry plant to this city and greatly enlarge its capacity upon certain conditions has engaged the attention of our manufacturing committee and others for a week or two. The project seems to be a certain success.

Mr. Evin Hoops and family left for their future home in California yesterday morning, followed by the best wishes of their many friends in Marion, where they have lived from pioneer days.

One of the finest jobs of frescoing in this neck o’ woods has recently been done by the Drake brothers for Mr. L.F. Keller in the dining room of his elegant residence.

W.W. Case informs me that about all the fixtures for Marion’s telephone exchange have arrived.

Tom Mason returned Monday from an extended trip through Arkansas. While he saw a great deal of fine timber, etc., he saw nothing that equaled Marion County.
