A large and enthusiastic meeting was held Monday evening at the Elgin Hotel to arrange for a proper celebration of the Fourth of July and a becoming welcome to the Rock Island Railroad.

The old Frazer farm adjoining Marion on the north is to be platted and put upon the market by a company of Marion capitalists. The tract contains 140 acres and will be one of the finest additions to the city.

The Presbyterian ladies will give a raspberry festival next Thursday evening in the west room of the Young Block.

We learn from a printed envelope issued by the Board of Trade of Peabody that that place is the “largest town in the county.” We mention this for the information of the assessors of the two towns, which have officially reported that Marion has 2,712 people while Peabody has but 1,874.

Marshal Lewis requests us to suggest to farmers who are accompanied to town by dogs that they should procure a tag for their dogs and thus save them from being killed.

Marion’s militia company now numbers about 60 members, about 20 having joined since Decoration Day. The boys anticipate a fine time in Hutchinson next month.

The Ladies Aid of the Methodist church will serve ice cream, lemonade, and possibly lunch to the hungry and thirsty thousands in the park on the Fourth.
