Marion is justly entitled to be called the City of Parks. Billings Park and Central Park, both in the city limits, surrounded by rapidly developing “additions,” have long been the pride of our people and the envy of neighboring towns.

Then there is the Mineral Springs Park and the Inter-State Park (near the foundry), both promising candidates for popular favor.

But if it is possible to eclipse these in beauty and attractiveness, the lovely resort now being fitted up for public uses by Mr. J.M. Wishart at the foot of the pretty residence thoroughfare — Walnut Street —will do it.

The stonework on Marion’s new foundry and machine shops is nearly completed, and the building will soon be ready for occupancy. Mr. Wishart has bought the right to patent a gasoline sad-iron, which he intends to manufacture, and which we believe will add extensively to Marion’s fame and Mr. Wishart’s wealth.

Bring your wife, your cousins, and your aunts to Marion on the Fourth and spend a day in the finest, shadiest, prettiest town in Kansas.

A streetcar project is being seriously entertained in Marion, and we shan’t be surprised if it materializes before snow flies. Indeed, no one need be surprised at anything happening in Marion, especially in the improvement line.

The bell for the new Methodist church has arrived at last, and it is hoped will be in position to call the congregation next Sunday. It weighs 1,400 pounds.
