Jesse James, the famous outlaw and desperado of Western, Missouri, was reported shot and probably killed on the 2d.

We are getting old. The Record closes its eighth volume this week. The paper is really one year older than this indicates, being fairly entitled to the year’s existence it had under the names Western News and Little Giant.

The county commissioners at their meeting last week, in answer to a petition of the people interested, cut Risley Township in twain.

The new township, which is the southern half of the old, was named Liberty. This is a consummation some of the people out there “long have sought” and we are glad their wishes have at least been attained.

One of the heaviest rains we have ever known to fall here this time of year came down last Thursday. It poured for hours. It prepares the growing wheat for winter, and makes the farmers glad.

What kind of den is that in the Mehl building basement, anyhow? It might be well for the proper city officials to investigate the business.
