Publishers of small country papers who can get out their little productions in two days, and have the rest of the time to loaf don’t need to suspend for holidays. But proprietors of flourishing establishments, who are busily occupied 16 hours out of every 24, frequently suspend during the holidays. Circumstances alter cases.

The road leading into Peabody from the north is in a bad condition; there is one standing mud hole from hedgerow to hedgerow that is nearly bottomless, and three other places are nearly as bad.

This morning a whirlwind took part of the roof off of J.M. Risley’s corncrib and carried it more than 100 feet away, smashing it up quite badly besides killing five turkeys out of a flock that was roosting on the top of the crib.

There is hardly a vacant seat in any of the departments of the Marion Centre school. After the holidays there will be more room provided for the students. Quite a number are attending this school who do not belong to the Marion Centre district and some who do not belong to Marion County. The school building is the best in the county, and it is certainly an honor to the citizens of so new a county. The primary department is under the control of Miss S.A. Alderman and is well managed. Miss Mollie Dickerson is the teacher in the intermediate department.
