A committee from McPherson County and Marion Centre went to Topeka to interview Mr. Nickerson, president of the AT&SF Railroad, last Saturday. They met with the gentleman, and he reiterated the determination of the company to build a road from Florence to McPherson but could not say definitely when.

Veneration for the father of our country seems to be growing judging from the very general and elaborate celebrations of his birthday throughout the country last Friday.

An approximate average daily attendance at Marion Centre schools is 150.

Marion Centre is about out of debt, and we arise to make a suggestion. It is that Main St., from Muddy Creek bridge to the Cottonwood Valley Bank, be macadamized this spring. We think the city could make no better investment.

A masquerade party, gotten up by Battey’s Band, came off last Friday night and was largely attended. The sport was prolonged until the “wee sma’ hours.”

Know all men by these presents that this is the first day of spring, according to the almanac. March was somewhat in a hurry, however, and got in a big day of blow yesterday.

Bid McClary’s mule team ran away Tuesday and mutilated a wagon somewhat. A mule is a good animal not to trust.
