The State Normal School at Emporia, together with its entire contents, was destroyed by fire on the morning of the 26th. The fire is supposed to have ignited in a large pile of coal stored in the cellar, and broke out with so great intensity that in a short time the entire building was in flames. The walls only remain standing, and they are so badly weakened as to be useless. The school will be continued in such other quarters as can be secured in the village.

An addition to Mr. Jex’s dwelling is the latest improvement.

W.S. Brolly, representing Covert and Greenwood, Chicago safe dealers, came to Marion Centre several weeks ago to open a safe, the combination of which had been lost, and while here sold three time locks, at $400 each, contracted to furnish the vault doors for Kable’s courthouse job, besides getting on the track of several parties in town to whom he probably will sell safes. Brolly will bankrupt this town yet.
