Our advices from McPherson County concerning the prospects of the M. & M. Railroad are very encouraging. The requisite petitioners have been secured, and the election will probably be called this week. The friends of the road are sanguine of an overwhelming majority.

It occurs to us that the proper authorities cannot too soon replace the missing railing that connects the west end of the Muddy Creek bridge with the sidewalk. It is a dangerous place.

A new tin shop has been opened by J. D. Kious in the Case block, two doors east of the post office.

The card of Mr. Aumann, the enterprising Vulean who has recently opened a shop on Main St., will be found in this issue. Mr. Aumann is a good workman and a good citizen. He is from Canada, and that alone is credential enough so far as character is concerned. We have yet to hear of a rascal among the many Canadians located in our midst.

The protracted freeze of over six weeks’ duration has been breaking up all this week.

Two men were hanged in Pennsylvania last week, and in less than a minute after the drop fell, a reprieve from the governor arrived, but it was too late.
